At communion God is saying to all of His children, “You are the body of Christ.” In1 Corinthians 10:17 Paul says, “For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.”
We are one loaf because we all commune and are connected to one Jesus. If I refer to the body of Christ, what am I talking about? Either Jesus in heaven, Jesus as presented in the one loaf, or the body of Jesus as the church.
We are all forgiven by the blood of Jesus, so we drink from one cup, passed among us. There is one cup of salvation.
Communion is a feast for us to enjoy together. You can’t take communion alone (unless you are stranded on a desert island, and you’re not) because Christ invites to take it together. Therefore don’t go into a private prayer time at communion where you don’t see your brothers and sisters. Look around, commune with them, be reconciled to one another, eat and drink so a great a salvation. Connect to Christ and one another.
