These are my comments made at a Defund Planned Parenthood Rally.
Good Morning. Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today. Thank you to the organizers and to all who have come out to support the cause of life: the lives of children, lives of children in the womb, the lives of mothers facing crisis pregnancies, and the lives of fathers of those children. Also I want to thank those who are listening now or who will hear or read who are not pro-life yet but are open-minded to hearing why we think everyone must be, and why now is the time to defund Planned Parenthood. Why are we here?
Not just a political issue
We’re here because this is not fundamentally a political issue, but a moral issue. This is an issue of human rights and civil rights. In the most recent investigative video, Melissa Farrell, Director of Research at PP Gulf Coast says, quote, “If we alter a process, and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, it’s all just a matter of line items.”
While drinking wine and eating salad, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Director of Medical Services, Dr. Nucatola, says “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.” Get what intact? As another PP doctor says, pouring over the remains of abortions, “another boy.” She just as easily could have seen and said “another girl.” You get intact human organs from at-one-time intact human beings. These are not “blobs of issue.” These are not “products of conception.” THESE ARE PEOPLE. So this is not fundamentally a political issue, but first and foremost an issue of protecting a person’s inalienable right to life, as our Declaration of Independence says, “endowed by their Creator”.
But we can see why many people say this is only a political issue. Former Clinic Director of PP Gulf Coast Abby Johnson estimates a clinic collects $120k per month via fetal tissue sale, illegal and way beyond the amount of recouping costs. Last year tax payers gave Planned Parenthood more than $528 million, more than 40% of their budget. And PP gives back to politicians who keep the money coming. All this money goes to Planned Parenthood even though their services beyond abortion are rendered necessary by over 13,000 fully funded medical clinics across the country.
Not just a woman’s issue
Why are we here? This is a human rights issue, this is a child’s issue, this is a woman’s and mother’s issue, but this is also is a father’s issue. Remember that Roe v Wade did not just approve the abortion of infants, but was also the abortion of fatherhood, saying that fathers have no say about the life their baby. No, that was restricted to the mother’s choice. Now the choice to end someone’s life should never be in the hands of any individual, but fathers are prohibited by law from protecting their children from abortion. The fact that this fact rarely even occurs to us is a great judgment on our nation, as is the fact that unwed mothers are so often victimized by lack of support to carry and pressure to abort by the fathers of their children. When does fatherhood begin? Ask yourself. When? At conception. This is not just a women’s issue, not just a mother’s issue, but a father’s issue. I want to speak to the men, and I want to ask the women to listen, and hold their men, their sons and husbands and fathers and brothers, accountable. Men, you are responsible for the outcome of your sexual behavior. Not just the children that result from it, but certainly the children. Because of our sacrificial love to care for, lead provide, listen to, befriend, support, pray for, and educate, our daughters, and to care for all the women we love in every way we can, they are never face the kind of pressure they regularly do to abort. If we didn’t have a fatherhood problem in America, we wouldn’t have this problem which is the rotten fruit of father hunger. So men, love your women. Love them with everything you have. This can only be done efficaciously by our turning our hearts to God the Father through blood of Jesus Christ which He shed on the cross for our sins, and conquered by His resurrection. First and foremost, believe that. Then what?
What do we do?
- Don’t get fatigued, don’t get cynical and ugly, and don’t forget that you’re not primarily fighting against people, you are fighting for people. Wilberforce fought for 30 years in British Parliament before slavery was abolished. Stay the course. Ask people to go to centerformedicalprogress.org and watch the videos. Many pro choice people see the videos, like many have seen ultrasounds, and change their minds, not just about Planned Parenthood, but about abortion.
- Encourage a congressional investigation into the apparent illegal activities of Planned Parenthood. We want Congress and our state Attorney General Bob Ferguson to investigate Planned Parenthood.
It doesn’t matter how long it takes. We will love and fight and pray until the taking of unborn and partially-born life is protected.
