This weekend the National Education Association, the largest union the country with just under $353 million in receipts in 2007, will be voting to approve gay marriage, repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, and condemn Proposition 8.
In many states like Washington, union dues are not optional even though the organization is audaciously political. In 2007, a group of WA teachers won in a lawsuit for $600,000 that went to the Supreme Court because the state branch of the NEA used membership fees to illegally support political agendas.
Most Christians are comfortable with government controlled education when it has a conservative agenda, and this has it’s own problems–namely that it leads to the secular mess we currently have as R. L. Dabney poignantly predicted over a century ago. The NEA is so blatantly anti-Christian now that even mild evangelicals Christians ought to have the screaming fantods. It has come to the point where participation manifestly lends support to those who are bent on destroying not just their opponents but themselves as well.
