Piper vs Wright Cage Match

In his introduction to The Future of Justification: A Response to N. T. Wright, John Piper says “what [Wright] has written will lead to a kind of preaching that will not announce clearly what makes the lordship of Christ good news for guilty sinners or show those who are overwhelmed with sin how they may stand righteous in the presence of God.” This statement is made in the context of qualified appreciation for Wright’s work outside of the area of justification. Wright has done such stupendous work elsewhere–on the resurrection, the church, and the gospels–it’s painful to watch him fumble on justification, assuming (as I’ve heard from good sources) that he does. I plan to work through this book and Wright’s latest (Justification: God’s Plan & Paul’s Vision), sitting in the front row and hopefully getting flecked from some of the harder blows.
